The resurgence of interest in analog photography post-pandemic has sparked the creation of the Savannah Center for Photography, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering appreciation for photography and providing resources and education. This new venture, led by Josh Yates, a photographer with a budding national career, aims to offer a community darkroom, gallery, and workshop space. Yates, who has a background in entrepreneurship and leadership, is passionate about analog photography and believes in the power of community. He envisions the center as a hub for photographers of all levels, offering hands-on facility access and a range of classes from beginners to advanced. The center's inaugural show, SCP Presents, features work by board members, photographer friends, and acquaintances, with all proceeds donated to the new venture. Yates' own photography career has been impressive, with his work included in group shows and awarded third place in the SlowExposures Festival. His chosen subject matter is abandoned spaces, captured in stark, dystopian black and white. The center's grand opening and show will take place on June 26, offering a unique opportunity to explore the world of analog photography and support this exciting new addition to Savannah's art scene.
